The Victory Drift

December 26, 2025

“But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.” — Luke 2:19

The adrenaline of the event has faded. The celebration is over. The gifts are opened. The noise has died down. The guests have left. The world goes back to work.

This is the danger zone.

In warfare, the most vulnerable moment is often right after a victory. It’s called the “victory drift.” We let our guard down. We relax. We stop watching the perimeter because we think the main event is over. We assume the enemy is taking a break because we are taking a break.

But the enemy does not take holidays. He waits for the moment of distraction. He waits for the post-celebration slump.

Mary gives us the strategy for the “day after.” The text says she kept these things and pondered them.

She didn’t let the magnitude of the moment escape her. She didn’t just experience the miracle and then rush back to the laundry. She secured the intel. She meditated on the truth. She locked the revelation away in the vault of her spirit.

Do not rush past what God has done this month. Do not rush back into the noise of the world without securing the ground you have gained. If you do not ponder the truth, the birds of the air will come and snatch the seed before it takes root. The busyness of life will choke out the revelation of Christmas before January even begins.

What did God speak to you in the dark? What promises did He renew during Advent? What scriptures came alive?

Lock them away in the treasury of your heart. Guard them. Build a wall around them. Ponder the truth. Solidify your stance. The year is ending, but the campaign continues. Stay alert. The King has come, but the war is not over.

The Warrior’s Prayer: Lord, I secure the ground I have gained. I refuse to let the busyness of life steal the revelation of Your presence. I quiet my soul to ponder Your works. I lock Your promises in the vault of my heart. Seal Your truth in me so that I may not sin against You. Keep me vigilant as I transition into the next season. Amen.
