The Fire in a Man’s Chest

October 24, 2025

“His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” — Jeremiah 20:9

Every man knows what it feels like to burn with passion. It’s that drive that makes us fight for what matters, that restless push inside when we see injustice, when our family is threatened, or when God stirs us toward something greater. That fire is not random — it is God-given.

But many men live like their fire has gone out. Life has a way of smothering it. The constant grind of work. The wounds we never dealt with. The distractions of entertainment and addiction. The enemy’s strategy is to keep us dulled, numbed, harmless. If he can snuff out the fire in a man’s chest, he can keep him from ever stepping into his true calling.

Jeremiah tried to hold it in. He thought about keeping quiet, about laying down the prophetic call because it cost him too much. But he couldn’t. God’s Word was like a fire in his bones that refused to be silenced. That same fire burns in you.

Think of Peter. Just weeks before Pentecost, he was cowering in fear, denying he even knew Jesus. But when the Holy Spirit came, fire rested on him, and he preached boldly before thousands. The same man who trembled before a servant girl stood unashamed before crowds and rulers. That’s what happens when the fire of God consumes a man.

Brother, don’t apologize for the fire inside you. Don’t bury it under shame or distraction. Aim it. Let it fuel your prayers. Let it ignite your love for your wife and children. Let it drive your fight for purity, justice, and truth. The world has enough passive men. It needs men who burn.

The fire in your chest is not meant to be comfortable. It is meant to be dangerous — dangerous to the kingdom of darkness, dangerous to apathy, dangerous to every lie of the enemy. Tend it. Feed it with Scripture. Protect it in prayer. Surround yourself with brothers who carry the flame too.

Because when your fire burns, others will catch it. And a single man on fire for God can change the world.
