“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10
You were not placed on this earth without purpose. Before your first breath, before you even opened your eyes, God had already written an assignment over your life. Paul says in Ephesians that we are God’s workmanship — His masterpiece, carefully crafted, designed with intention. And not only are we designed, but we are designed for good works prepared in advance. That means your life is not random. There is a mission only you can fulfill.
The enemy knows this. That’s why distraction is one of his greatest weapons. If he can keep you comparing your assignment to another man’s, you’ll waste years trying to live a story that was never yours. If he can bury you in shame or fear, you’ll hide from the very calling that would set you free.
Think of Moses. When God called him at the burning bush, his immediate response was insecurity: “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” (Ex. 3:11) He doubted his ability, his voice, his worth. But God wasn’t interested in Moses’ résumé — He was interested in his obedience. “I will be with you,” the Lord said. That was enough.
David too was overlooked by his own family. When Samuel came to anoint a king, Jesse didn’t even bother calling David out of the fields. Yet it was David, the shepherd boy, who carried the assignment of leading Israel. He didn’t earn it — God chose it.
You have an assignment too. It may not look grand in the world’s eyes, but in the Kingdom, it carries eternal weight. Raising children in the fear of the Lord. Leading with integrity in a workplace of compromise. Standing boldly for Christ in a culture that mocks Him. These are not small things — they are divine assignments.
The question is: will you stand in yours? Or will you let insecurity, distraction, or fear keep you sidelined?
Paul told Timothy to “fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.” (2 Tim. 1:6) That’s your call too. Stop running from your assignment. Stop minimizing it. Stand in it. Walk it out. And trust that the One who prepared it will also empower you to fulfill it.
