“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” — 1 John 3:8
Every great story has conflict. Kingdoms rise and fall. Heroes fight against darkness. Good and evil clash in decisive battles. We love stories like The Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, or The Chronicles of Narnia because deep down, we know: this is the story we are living in.
But here’s the catch — this story isn’t fiction. It’s more dangerous than anything Hollywood could script. God’s Kingdom is advancing. Satan is resisting. Humanity stands in the middle.
Most men are never told this. They’re told Christianity is about being “nice,” going to church, and staying out of trouble. But Jesus didn’t come just to make us polite — He came to make us dangerous to darkness. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8) That’s warfare language.
The enemy works hard to lull men to sleep — because a man unaware of the war will never pick up his weapon. But Jesus spent His ministry casting out demons, confronting religious powers, healing the broken, and announcing a Kingdom that was violently advancing.
Brother, you are living in a dangerous story. That’s why your life feels contested. That’s why your family is under pressure. That’s why walking with Jesus isn’t easy. The moment you said “yes” to Him, you stepped onto a battlefield.
But take heart. The Author of the story isn’t wringing His hands in panic. The victory has already been secured through the cross. Our role is not to live like frightened spectators but like sons who know the end of the story.
